UK ministers are planning to update the country’s 17-year-old gambling legislation, and some changes could affect how UK Online Casinos operate.

A source familiar with the matter exclusively told Bloomberg last week that the ministers are considering putting a cap of between £2 and £5 on the maximum stakes for online casinos. They are also thinking of banning free bets on online gambling sites.

Additionally, online gambling companies may be required to remove certain features from their online games that increase the risk level for customers. Some features are allegedly designed to make players lose money faster.

An “affordability checks” feature is also being considered. This could be implemented, so online casino users would know just how much they can safely spend per gaming session.

The ministers hope that updating the gambling legislation in the country would help address the growing concerns about online gambling addiction.

The source revealed that the UK’s Gambling Commission, which regulates the industry, will also be given new powers and additional funding as part of the changes.
